What were they?

- There was a big iron combined axe
and hammer weapon in the ship burial
at Sutton Hoo. It was placed inside the
dead person's
sarcophagus (big coffin).
- There were five spears and three
special barbed spears called 'angons' placed against the wall at
the head of the burial chamber. The dead person's favourite spear
was also placed on his sarcophagus. They were all made of iron.
- There was a superb sword
in a scabbard. It is the best Saxon sword ever found.
- There was a beautifully decorated shield.
It may have been too good for use in battle. Perhaps it was just
used for show.
