St. Modwenna of Northumbria (7th Century) This lady's existence is doubtful as very little is known of her. She is said to have visited King Aldfrith of Northumbria at Whitby, in AD 685, when he requested her to instruct his sister, the Abbess Elflaeda. This story is very similar to St. Modwenna of Burton-upon-Trent's tutelage of St. Edith of Polesworth.
