OGOF ARTHUR
King Arthur sleeping on Anglesey

Ogof Arthur or "Arthur's Cave" is a name given to several caverns across Wales. King Arthur is said to lie sleeping with his knights in one so named in Meirionydd. However, its exact location is unknown and it may be that this is a confused memory of Ogof Arthur in the cliffs below the burial chamber of Barclodiad-y-Gawres near Rhosneigr on Ynys Mon (Anglesey).

The usual story associated with this cave is that King Arthur sheltered here while engaged in a horrendous battle with Irish pirates. He had with him much of the Royal treasury and it was hidden in the cave where it still lies today - a mile underground! But where is the cave's entrance? It is said to be revealed at exceptionally low tides.
