Princess Riemmelth of North Rheged
(Born c.AD 610)
(Welsh: Rhieinfellt; Latin: Reginbelta; English: Regina)

Riemmelth was the daughter of Rhoyth ap Rhun, who was probably the last king of an independant Rheged. She married, as his first wife, Prince (later King) Oswiu of Northumbria around 638. This appears to have been a political alliance designed to pass the run-down Kingdom of Rheged into the more stable hands of Anglo-Saxon Northumbria. Together, they became the parents of King Alhfrith but, sadly, Riemmelth appears to have died within a few years of his birth.

Records of Riemmelth date back to the 9th century. He is generally considered historic.
