This is the home of Frithestan the Scop (pronounced 'Shop'). A scop is a Saxon minstrel. He works for the thane (lord) of this village. He sings in the thane's great hall and often sleeps there, but he also likes his privacy and has his own grub-hut just outside the gates. He is not there much as he travels round with the thane to his different lands. He recites poems, tells stories, sings songs and plays music to entertain the thane, his family and his guests.
